Emma Roberts and Ex Garrett Hedlund Reunite for Son Rhodes’ 5th Birthday Celebration

Emma Roberts and Garrett Hedlund are giving their little one some fabulous memories to remember. 

The Unfabulous actress and the Tulsa King star—who split in 2022 after two years of dating—reunited to give their son Rhodes a special gift for his 5th birthday: a trip to Orlando’s Universal Resort. 

“So nice, we had to go twice!” Emma, 34, wrote in her Jan. 16 Instagram post, “the best belated birthday trip for Rhodes #5.”

True to the occasion, the Nickelodeon alum shared a look at her kid’s full itinerary. Indeed, the trio visited Toadstool’s Cafe at Super Nintendo World located inside Universal Epic Universe), the Lorax and Cat in the Hat adventure at Universal's Islands of Adventure, as well as E.T.’s colorful tunnel. Between their adventures, Emma and Garrett, 41, also took a few selfies with Rhodes, even giving him a kiss on the cheek. 

The outing, Garrett noted in the comments of Emma's Instagram post, was, "The Greatest!!!"

This trip comes shortly after the Scream Queens actor—who’s now engaged to Midsummer actor Cody John—and her son celebrated the holidays together. In December, she posted a cozy photo of her and Rhodes smiling as they played in the snow on Instagram, captioning the moment, “Merry merry.”  

And when Emma’s not documenting their bond on social media, she’s reflecting on how much he’s impacted her view of the world. 

“Motherhood has given me so much depth in my emotions and understanding, both personally and professionally," Emma told Harper’s Bazaar Spain earlier that month. “Seeing everything through his eyes is beautiful and transforms your perspective on the world.”

She continued, “I feel like I’m still discovering who I am, as a person and as a mother. I try to do my best, although I don’t always succeed, but I try.”

Meanwhile, Garrett’s exploring his relationship to fatherhood through acting—specifically, his role in the 2025 film Barron’s Cove, which sees his character Caleb kidnapping the boy he believes caused his child’s sudden death.

“It really posed the question of, ‘How far would you go for your child?’” he explained to E! News last June. “And for that, I could really relate to the character I play, because there would be no bounds, no limits.” 

In fact, the Country Strong actor embodied this devotion that summer, as he was able to mostly clear his schedule to spend quality time with Rhodes.  

“It’s looking beautiful for me,” he explained. “If I was working every single day that week, the little man was gonna come down and we’d journey all throughout Georgia. But it looks like it might be a nice little getaway to the farm.”
