The Emmys' "In Memoriam" segment is meant to honor those in the entertainment industry who passed away in the last year.
Last night, Tori Kelly performed "Hallelujah" as photos of David Bowie, Prince, Merle Haggard, Gene Wilder, Natalie Cole and more flashed across the screen. As seems to be the case year after year, not every fallen star was represented in the "In Memoriam" segment. Fans of Christina Grimmie, a former contestant on The Voice who was tragically killed in June, were particularly vocal about the singer's absence from the 2016 Emmys tribute.
The late vocalist's fans took to Twitter to react to the snub.
Its disgusting how they left out Christina Grimmie at the #Emmys

I'm still shocked that they didn't mention Christina Grimmie in the "In Memoriam" segment at the #Emmys last night.

Christina Grimmie deserved to be apart of the #inmemoriam but it's not the first time she's been snubbed. #emmys

Catching up on DVR, how did @TheEmmys forget the talented Christina Grimmie from @NBCTheVoice in tonight's in memoriam segment? #Emmys

What about Christina Grimmie? #inmemoriam #emmys

Others noted that The Voice, which launched Grimmie to stardom, won an Emmy for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
So the #Emmys left Christina Grimmie out of the "In Memoriam" segment yet The Voice just won an Emmy tonight. Something ain't right here ??

Ok so I'm a little annoyed that @NBCTheVoice won an Emmy & didn't even mention Christina Grimmie, nor was she honored in the memoriam..

Grimmie was not the only fallen star who absent from this year's "In Memoriam" segment: Former WWE star Chyna, Ice Road Truckers star Darrell Ward and Earth Wind & Fire's Maurice White were missing as well.
