The news of Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert's split earlier today came as a shock to many, especially considering how hard they've fought to debunk the rumors of trouble in paradise over the course of their four-year marriage.

E! News confirmed earlier that Shelton had filed divorce papers, and shortly thereafter the two released the following joint statement:

"We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter."

And now, a source explains just what really went down in the famous couple's highly publicized relationship, and what lead to their decision to part ways.

"Their busy schedules were a big issue for them. They both worked a lot and had to spend a lot of time apart. The less time they spent together, the more they grew apart," our source shared.

"Trust was an issue for both of them. It went along with having to spend a lot of time apart. Rumors of infidelity put stress on them. Despite denials, even just rumors of cheating are still hard to hear."

Meanwhile, a separate insider explained to E! News that Lambert—who is busy on tour—is "doing the best she can at the moment and trying to process everything."

"She is strong and will come out of this stronger," they added. "She is focusing on her music, family and friends."

The exes have no children together but reportedly have a prenup.

The 39-year-old crooner and the 31-year-old songstress tied the knot in front of family and friends in Texas back in May 2011.
