According to Page Six, the Oscar winner popped the question over a home-cooked meal at his L.A. home, forgoing his eternal bachelor status in favor of a married life with the beautiful human rights lawyer.
Clooney reportedly got down on one knee after cooking a romantic dinner at his mansion in Studio City, Calif. where he presented Amal with a stunning seven-carat diamond engagement ring.
And as we all know, she said yes.
"George cooked a meal himself for Amal at home on April 22, then he surprised her by getting down on bended knee and presenting her with the ring," a source told Page Six. "He was so happy she accepted, he was calling friends with the news later that night."
The couple later celebrated the happy news while dining at Malibu restaurant Nobu with Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber just two days later. In the middle of dinner that evening, the couple told pal Edward Norton "We're engaged!" when he approached their table, and the actor went on to congratulate them with kisses.
So how did Amal finally tie down Hollywood's most eligible bachelor? By reportedly using one of the oldest tricks in the book—playing hard to get.
A source close to the couple told the Daily Mail that she turned down the Hollywood hunk not once, but twice before agreeing to go on a date with him.
"Clooney asked her out for dinner and she put him off twice, saying she was too busy, before accepting the third time," the insider explained.
"She was operating on the lines of 'treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen,' and clearly it worked. Clooney was beguiled by her and she had the upper hand."
The source also added that Clooney loves how his future wife isn't fazed by his star power.
"What he likes about her is that she treats him normally. He is so used to being fawned over that it's refreshing for him. And of course, she is a brilliant human rights lawyer—but quite an operator too, you might say. She has met a whole bunch of A-listers through him and is seemingly quite cool about it, though you suspect she's loving it."
Alamuddin has also earned the stamp of approval from George's family, whose mother and father have both sung the brunette beauty's praises.
"We are very pleased," Clooney's father, veteran broadcaster Nick Clooney, told E! News. "We like Amal and we are very excited for our family and thrilled for them."
"They are both wonderful people and hope they have a terrific life ahead of them," the elder Clooney continued. "This is their day. This is George and Amal's time."
This will be the second trip down the aisle for the 52-year-old Clooney, who was married to Talia Blasam from 1989 to 1993.
