ABCDiane Kruger and Joshua Jackson may seem like the perfect couple. But that's only because they are. Still, it seems even these two encountered a few bumps in the romance road along the way.
Kruger stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! while out promoting her new FX series The Bridge and shared a story about the first time her Dawson's Creek boyfriend met her mother. Which also happened to be the first time her mother asked Jackson about being arrested:
"I'm from a very small village in Germany, so I don't usually bring boys back unless they're somewhat serious," Kruger explained to Jimmy Kimmel. "It's a tradition in Germany when you come home to have coffee and cake, it's very German. So I prepped him."
She continues, "I said, ‘You have to have cake. You have to have coffee. Even if you don't like it.' He has a nut allergy. It had almonds in it. I was like, ‘You're eating it. You're definitely doing it.' And so he did."
"I was translating. I thought we were doing so good," Kruger reminisces, noting that her mother did not speak English. "Then my mom goes, ‘Ah, wait. I have something for you.' She goes into the office and comes back with this [plastic] folder of Internet clippings of Josh. With his mug shot."
Jackson was arrested on November 9, 2002, at a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game in Raleigh, N.C., for allegedly drunkenly assaulting a security guard. He agreed to take alcohol education class and perform community service and the charges were dropped.
"She thought it would be cute to go, ‘So I see you've been arrested in 1997 at the hockey game.' And says, ‘Who's fault was it?'" Diane laughs, looking back. "We were there for three days, we did not speak for two. It was not good."
Last month amid engagement rumors, a source told E! that the couple had no plans to marry. But we definitely want to hear Mama Kruger's reaction when they do! She sounds hilarious!
