AKM-GSIOn Sunday, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson welcomed their second child together: Ace Knute Johnson.
J.Simp's BFF CaCee Cobb gushed that she was "IN LOVE" with the newborn, and papa Joe Simpson tweeted that he felt "very blessed to celebrate the birth of my new grandson." Obviously, we're extremely happy that little Maxwell Drew Johnson has a happy, healthy baby brother. Since the news of Ace Knute's birth, however, there have been a lot of varying opinions out there about what Jess and Eric chose for his name.
Ace, well, we just think it sounds cool, but E and J surely had their own reasons. As for Knute (pronounced Ka-nute)? Per Us Weekly, it honors Eric's Swedish paternal grandfather.
Maxwell Drew, 1, was also named with family history in mind. Maxwell is Eric's middle name as well as his grandmother's surname, and Drew is the maiden name of Jessica's mom, Tina Simpson.
Ace Knute is definitely cute—and not too crazy, especially as far as Hollywood names go. (Keep in mind Ace and Maxwell's adorable first cousin is named Bronx Mowgli Wentz!) But, if Eric and Jess had wanted to go another route, there were a couple of other awesome options.
For example, Reese Witherspoon named her baby boy Tennessee in honor of the great Southern state she grew up in. Had Jess chosen that path, we'd be gushing about baby Texas Johnson today!
She also could've named the family's new addition after papa Joe, whose full name is Joseph Truett Simpson. (Admittedly Joe Johnson doesn't have the best ring to it, but Truett Johnson sounds pretty darn good!)
Then again, Ace's dad is an Ivy League graduate.Yep, before Eric played in the NFL, he played football at Yale—even catching the game-winning touchdown against Harvard! Yale alone would make a great name, and Yale Johnson? Might as well save that kid a seat in the Oval Office.
